Oh man...this is so swell...a 5s1 blog...
Xingji here reporting on life in singapore...and finding out that after a long absence in the field of writing....it gets hard to acquaint yourself with it once more
I've been sitting here since 3 pm(it's now 6pm) trying to figure out what to write...when darrell comes along and tells me to just write about life here and how i've (barely) adapted to it...by the way...big thanx to darrell for setting this blog up....3 cheers n 3 cheers n 3 cheers for darrell...(hip hip hurray x3)
By the way...that is one of the cheers we have in my jc(junior college)...minus the darrell... if there's one thing i've learnt since joining a singaporean jc...is that they have acronyms for everything...many of which i shall litter unnecessarily throughout this post...don't mind them...their presence is more useless than a weasel in a cardboard t-shirt.
Life here isn't too bad actually... food in my hostel is fine...9 choices per sitting..of lauk that is...talkin about lauk...or rather malay....the standard here is pretty atrocious..considering that it is still ( constitunionally) their official language....check out the signs in the mrt if u ever come here....their not exactly bad till it's funny...their just plain bad...
My hostel houses a fair amount of indons, chinese, indians and some viets, thais, filipinos and cambodians...msians actually not many..hehe...being able to speak malay and chines is actually pretty cool for the first time ever....you get the sense of how important being multi lingual is when you have to communicate with people of other nationalities...
True...they all speak english( with different accents) but being able to talk to them in their mother tongue is a plus point....as it makes em feel like u r "one of em"...and it also allows u to eavesdrop on their (previously) private conversations...hahaha...no point learning tamil though...many indians that come here can't speak it either...
About the only thing i've really got to complain about is that I have to clean my own toilet and do some of my own laundry....manually...the limit they place on the laundry system is ridiculous...5 tdhirts a week....2 towels a week....shaun's place is apparently better....10 pieces of clothing(any sort) per session...we all have 3 laundry sessions a week...mon...wed...and fri...cleaning your own toilet sucks...expecially when u share with others...they make dirty...but u still have to clean...thankfully...my roommates all pretty kuai....two indians and another msian...not much to complain about...
Hey...the indians must be really smart man...one of my roomates has a nuclear scientist for a father( He works for the Indian Atomic Energy Agency...to be repeated with an indian accent and great shakes of the head)...the other's dad is a chief engineer while his mum is a Maths professor...and they read " A brief history of time" for leisure...OMG
By the way...if you ever meet indians from india...remember...when they shake their heads...it means yes...this caused some confusion in the beggining...thankfully ...they don't nod when they say no...otherwise i'll be really screwed up...
One thing i miss is my house pc...(and you guys as well...haha)...the hostel com always got people use...and not all got LAN cables....all the PRC( people's republic of China) and indons have their own coms...only the msian so stupid...believe the don't bring your own com bullshit..you can't play games on the school com...and they only got windows messenger...according to our seniors...the hostel network has apparently been hacked before...where ppl will hog the entire bandwidth for emselves...and this sacred knowledge is passed down from generation to generation( like the kama sutra)...so we better enjoy the internet while we can...if ever i stop comin o9...u noe y la...
JC life is fun....for now....because it's still orientation...i'll elaborate abit(well...maybe alot) on orientation in my jc...we get sorted into 8 OGs (orientation groups) with each group's name beggining with an initial that comes form the word victoria...thus this year we have....valhalla, inferno, chronos, thor, osmoze(my group),razzle, icis and animagus...the theme this yr was superheroes...and the storyline was pretty lame....something about emperor momo trying to steal a powerful artefact called Victoria's secret...i dunno about the other jcs...perhaps the others can post their thought here as well.... :p
Which brings me to my next point...singaporeans are actually pretty lame...as in swt sorta lame..
u won't believe the cheers here...the lyrics are unbelievable...as in unbelievably cheesy...still...their still only a bunch of 16 yr olds...ha(like me)...oh...and they dunno what swt means...but they have a slang of their own...like sia la and stuff...walau they oso got...plus....wacow and dunno what else...They also play a pathetic form of mafia called polar bear...where u have polar bears(mafia) hunter(spy) n villagers(citizens).....do u see the big flaw...no doctor...the polar bears always win...the spy is useles...and...nvm...we also play such intelectually matured and challenging games such as Bang Bang and concentration which i will not elaborate for good reason...
Another thing...the people here seem to be pretty hush hush about relationships..if at all they have any...as in bgf....and when you tease them...they actually get VERY embarrased...and angry...like primary school kids...and i've found out the reason why...same sex sec schools...almost all sec schools here one sex punya...and as a result...on the first day of class the other thursday( like some intro lesson where u meet ur civics tutor(ct) n ur seniors)...boys sit one side...girls sit one side....all dare not talk to each other...
Even my seniors also pretty childish...but i think i better stop griping about that....did i mention that everyone looks like primary school kids( sommore some of their sec school uniform is the msian primary school wan...haha)
I've also found out that sinagapore has a secondary catholic high as well....much too late...cos first day when ice breaker...i say i'm from chs...everyone like eye me weirdly( somemore the pants is the same green color...except their is shorts...like our form 1 n two boys punya)...later on i found out that the singapore chs has a bad reputation of churning out gays...so much so that even tho it's officially an all boys school...evreryone thinks of it as a coed...it's true actually....one of the ogl(orientation group leader)s from chs damn gayish.....wlak like a girla...voice damn high ...n wear baby blue paul frank shoes...we've since called him frankie...thankfully...he wears a bell around his neck(no kidding) so we get ample warning to hide...
JCs in singapore are also very into mass dances...which is actually line dancing on a massive scale....my school has 6...all of which involve ridiculously complicated steps and routines which i fear i shall never muster...(just stand in the middle where no one can see you...that's the trick)The cheers here are lame when compared to the good ol chs 9th pj scout troup cheers...in fact...some of them are total rip offs of scout cheers...like the so called vj spirit...it's actually bp spirit...substitute vj for bp...get it...shaun said his school song (ACJC...Anglo Chinese Junior College)...is actually a rip off of the canadian maple leaf forever national song...his school bell chimes to "o canada"....how quaint
Our school also has abit of urban legends to it...there's one about uncle mayo....who is apparently the man who helps out out the western food stall...and goes to the boy's toilet to bertafakur every monday at 6pm....which is why no one eats the mayo at the western food stall...haha
Last friday....our school brought us to the fountain of wealth at suntec city( worls' largest fountain) near the esplanade....where we performed mass dances in public..the horror...and fun actually...
JCs here also require you to join ccas( co-curricular activities)...most people join one or two...i signed up for 17...haha...the senior nearly threw up when i mentioned that...no scouts here...but there's a DOTA club...no kiddin..termed...strategic gaming club...i'm goin for tryouts next wednesday...and on thursday for air rifle....
Life here isn't too bad...seriously....did i mentioned we have to clean our own toilets though...

Holy 17 club-ness... Only txj can pull off such a stunt... Let's see how many you have at the end of the year.
Hmm, boys and girls sit separate eh? Well then, you have the upper hand. Make sure you bring lotsa singaporean girls back.
Wear a bell around his neck? What is he? Pavlov's dog? Does he salivate everytime the bell rings? Way to taint the CHS initials...
Ah well, I miss all your crapping... Make sure you post more stuff like these man! Have fun!
p.s. daRRell might not be happy..
Believe me: no matter how long you've not practice your writing, the wit just sticks with you like anything. (Now, imagine if you came up with a personal blog... All of us will be *flocking* for a daily dose of xingjism. :P)
We once had a PRO-SKATER club- privately organised and hosted by the Editorial Board. XD
